Clive Summerfield

Dr. Clive Summerfield is Auraya Systems’ Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
Clive is an internationally recognized authority on voice technology and holds numerous patents in Australia, USA and UK in radar processing, speech chip design and speech recognition and voice biometrics.
As a former Founder Deputy Director of the National Centre for Biometric Studies (NCBS) at University of Canberra, in 2005 Clive undertook at the time the world’s largest scientific analysis of the voice biometric systems leading to the adoption of voice biometrics by for secure services. That experience lead Clive in 2006 founding Auraya, a business exclusively focused on advanced voice biometric technologies for enterprise and cloud based services.
He spearheaded the adoption of voice biometrics for secure services within , telecommunications, banking and financial institutions… He has been an adviser to departments and industry on biometric technologies research, evaluation, commercialization and deployment for over 10 years. Clive has over 30 years experience in research, and commercial deployment of new technologies worldwide.
Initially employed as a researcher at Macquarie and Sydney Universities in Australia and Edinburgh University in Scotland, Clive has unique experience across both speech recognition and voice biometrics.
Prior to founding Auraya, during the 1990’s Clive was founder and CEO of Syrinx Speech Systems, a business that pioneered the development and deployment of speech recognition in contact centers and telephone services. From a unfunded start-up in 1990, Clive was responsible for delivering the world’s first natural language voice recognition solution for the TAB in Perth (1996), the world’s largest speech recognition system at the time for AT&T Customer Service in the USA (1998) and Australia’s first speech recognition system in financial services for CommSec (2000).
Working closely with banks and financial services in Australia and the USA, Clive has used this experience to both design and deliver the ArmorVox product. Today ArmorVox is used in banks and in Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
Clive has a Bachelor of Science Honours (B.Sc. Hons) in Electrical Electronic Engineering and Diploma of Industrial Studies (DIS) from Loughborough University of Technology in the UK, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Sydney. He was Adjunct Professor of Computing at the University of Canberra and has been a Research Associate with Opus Research Inc.
